For Immediate Release
Palmyra Village Board and Police Department Decide Not to Move Forward with ICE 287(g) Task Force Agreement
Palmyra, November 14, 2025 — After listening closely to our residents, the Palmyra Village Board and Palmyra Police Chief have decided not to move forward with the ICE 287(g) Task Force Agreement, effective immediately.
Our original intent in exploring this agreement was to collaborate with our federal law enforcement partners in ways that could strengthen our ability to reduce crime and keep Palmyra safe. We also sought to prevent human trafficking and narcotics trafficking—serious crimes that have affected our community and the surrounding region in recent years.
We deeply value the feedback we have received from our community—on all sides of the discussion. After careful consideration of those voices, along with additional research and review, we believe that at this time, the best course forward for Palmyra is to take no further action on the proposed agreement.
Moving forward, our commitment remains the same: to keep Palmyra a safe, welcoming, and supportive place to live. We will continue working in partnership with our residents and exploring effective, community-centered strategies to prevent crime and uphold the values that make Palmyra strong.
Sincerely,
Paul Blount
Public Safety Director & Interim Police Chief
